FIRST TUTORIAL!
Say what?? Lol. so I thought I would attempt a make up tutorial using the new Maybelline 24 hour color tattoo cream eye shadows. I really like the product, I feel they have a good color pay off and they lasted, seriously, all day. Super vibrant colors too! Any way, check out the video, again sorry for the lighting. I will progressively be getting better equipment.

Day off and a facial!
I've been waiting for a relaxation day for awhile now. Just to do something nice for myself. I'm not one for massages, don't get me wrong I would never turn one down, so I went to get a facial at Ulta. I've had Aveda facials in the past and they have made me feel so much better so I thought I would treat myself. They also happened to be having a half off deal on their one hour facials.
I scheduled a Medibac Clearing Facial because acne is for sure my main concern. The lady who did my facial was wonderful! She greeted me and was on time which is always a plus in my book. She had me fill out a consultation form which was very in-depth. After writing down my concerns she brought me back into her room, which was just behind a fogged screen, and began to ask me more questions about what I needed. After getting undressed and lying down she looked at my face and actually complimented me on my skin! What? Usually estheticians tell me what I need to work on, not what I have done right so far. So that made me feel better. She told me the process she was about to do and told me why I had break outs where I did. She had a background in holistic healing which was nice to integrate into my facial. She was using Dermatilogical products which I have been interested in using for awhile. She used a cleanser, exfoliator, absorbing masque and moisturizing masque. She also did extractions which I was nervous about because in the past I have had a lance used my skin and then they push with all their might to get out what they can. I don't really like it but know it's good for me every so often. She used an extractor tool instead of a lance which I was very nervous about because I heard you can really mess up your skin with those. To my surprise she was very gentle and I didn't feel like she was scraping or pushing too deep. She kept making sure I was comfortable and said at any time I didn't feel comfortable, she could stop. I'm glad I toughed through it because she showed me all the gunk she got out of just the pores on my nose and I was so surprised! I opted out of getting the galvanic treatment because I couldn't get all of my piercings out and didn't want to risk it. Though I have done a high frequency treatment with my piercings in before, I am glad she was understanding and didn't want to risk it. I got up from the table and felt very clean and rejuvenated.
So that's a quick version of my hour (and a half!) facial. There were a few pros and cons I wanted to mention.
Pros:
1. she listened! she didn't act like I was too dumb to understand what she was telling me and wasn't feeding me a line of crap either. she was honest and helpful.
2. She was gentle and was making sure I was comfortable at all times. She was knowledgeable enough to know when not to use the galvanic treatment (which I secretly don't like anyway)
3. I liked the products and did not feel any stinging or tingling.
4. She didn't push products on me. Which is nice because I don't like to feel guilty when I don't buy everything suggested.
Cons:
1. The room was not secluded enough. I was just in a corner blocked off by a screen in a well lit store with the radio over the speakers. I could hear everything in the store and also a woman opened the screen while I was in there looking for someone else. Kind of broke my relaxation, but I could tell my service provider was a little upset with the woman. I prefer to be in a dim room that is quiet. This really didn't bother me all that much, but I have a hard time relaxing in that kind of setting. Not that big of a deal, because just lying down felt nice.
2. She didn't tell me what products she was using or when. I kind of just guessed. Also the last masque she put on had a horrible smell. Almost like sewage. I wish I would have known what that product is so I wouldn't buy it in the future. Either way it's no problem.
All in all I was very pleased with my service and will hopefully go back again soon! Though the price before my discount is a little steep for a once a month treatment, it might just be for when I am desperate for another relaxing day!
Also, here is a really cute pic of my cat. petsmart had these christmas hats on sale for a dollar!

Trip to Ulta!
I have to admit, I did not think I would love Ulta as much as I do. I thought it was another Sally's type place but it is more like Sephora but just as awesome! I work across the street from an Ulta and have to say I spend quite a few lunch breaks over there. I'm surprised they don't know me by name. (I secretly wish they did).
This Saturday I had a few minutes before work so I went to shop around. I had a coupon, which they seem to hand out like candy, and wanted to pick up some items I have always wanted to try but talked myself out of it. Here's a pic of all the great stuff I got!
ok, so it is a few pictures but I got so much it wouldn't fit into one! I was so happy when i got to the counter with my hands full of goodies!
The first thing I picked up that I have been wanting for awhile is the Benefit bronzer in Hoola. I have seen another make up artist use it and she is about the same color as me. I have been wanting a bronzer for awhile now but didn't trust that I knew how to use it and also thought I was too pale to even attempt it. But I thought it looked really good on her so I gave it a try. It was a little spendy but with my discount I figured it would be a good time to try it. And the verdict is... I LOVE IT!!!!!! I used it this morning and thought it was amazing how it added so much to the shape of my face and made my blush look even better! It is not too dark and not too shimmery so I am impressed. I have used the NYX bronzer before but did not like it at all. Mostly because it doesnt glide over my foundation very well. But this is amazing! Also a very little bit went a long way. Considering the price I am very happy with that. For anyone who is fair - light I would for sure recommend it!
The second thing I picked up, because I feel I am on a crusade to find the best foundation for the best price, was the Ulta brand foundation. I like the texture of it and liked that it went from a hard liquid to a soft powder once blended. I swatched it on my face at the store and was pretty impressed. I am on the fence about it now. After applying it to my whole face I realized it has a very distinct pink undertone to it. I am already very red and usually try my best to look as non-pink as I can. So that's on my con list. I ended up just putting my Pixi powder foundation over it to make it less pink. Which is fine because it set it and also made it more matte. I would say I wouldn't like it on it's own because it has a dewy look to it and I am all about the powdery look. I'll keep using it to see if it grows on me. The pros about it are, it lasted all day!! Even after having to rub my face in between clients to get hair off, it still stood up to smudging! I don't feel like I'm wearing any make up and don't feel greasy. So in that regard I like it.
Another offer they had was buy 2 Ulta products , get two free. I almost missed out on the deal but the lady behind the counter reminded me. Not to get off track, but I absolutely love the girl who works the register. She is the same skin tone as me and really helps me pick out foundation and different make up that she has tried and works for her. So I always get her opinion first. Gold star for her!
Any way, so I got two Ulta brushes and a blush in addition to the foundation I bought. The blush is really nice because it has a little shimmer to it and isn't too bubble gum pink but not too coral either. Love it! It looks really good when doing less dramatic eye color. The brushes on the other hand were so so. I needed new brushes because a) I accidentally threw away many of my brushes (WHAT WAS I THINKING?) and b) I didn't have many to begin with. I got the foundation brush (because it was free) and am not in love with it at all. (despite it being free). The bristles are too long and don't apply powder very well. It doesn't pick up powder or hold on to it very well. Guess I'll go back to my old brush for now, if I can keep my cat from running off with it chewing the bristles off. :( I did also get a contour brush which I actually like! It picks up powder very well and applies nicely for blush and bronzer! So that's a plus.
I picked up a pair of Ardell lashes. Just because they were on sale. They are number 111. Long, thick, and gorgeous! I can't wait to wear them for a night out! They are a little dramatic but I think I'll love them.
I also picked up three NYX eye shadows. Let me preface this with saying: I LOVE NYX! Cheap make up that is colorful and good quality! I use the jumbo eye pencils every day. And usually buy two Milk pencils every time I am at Ulta, just because I know I will use them eventually, and nothing is worse than running out of them. So I got some, what I thought were going to be, subtle colors. Ones I knew I would use on a daily basis for a quick natural look. The first is Pearl, which is very pretty pink almost like the inside of a oyster shell. I used it under my brow bone today and really liked it. I would like to try it with an all pink look maybe just on the inside of my eye. The second color is Nude Pearl which is like a light gold beige. I really like this color! I want to use it with a soft black for a more dramatic look. Very versatile neutral. I used this on the lid of my eyes today. The final color is Mink Pearl which is like a dark bronze/brown with some gold flexs. Looks like it will be a good color to pair with other browns. I used this on my crease today and it blended so well with the other gold color. The pink really brought out the brown in this color too!
The final item I picked up I have been fighting with myself whether I should really buy it or not. It is Euphoria by Calvin Klein. This is hands down my favorite perfume of all time. It isn't too floral like or too musky. I have never owned more than a little roller ball sample size but have treasured that little sample for years. Finally ran out back in the summer and have missed it ever since. So I broke down and picked up the roller ball full size. It was way more than I wanted to buy but thought I could make it last. I walk to the register thinking maybe I shouldn't spend twenty bucks on a little perfume that I will probably burn through in a few months, when she scans the package and says "hmm, that's weird. It keeps ringing up as 0 dollars. Oh well, I'll just give it to you for free" A huge smile comes over my face. I insist I pay for it and she says she can't change the price. (this is the girl that works the register that I like a lot. not because she gave me this perfume for free but still!). I was so excited walking out of the store. I was almost skipping through the parking lot! I get to work and a co-worker says "ooo! are you wearing Euphoria?" WHY YES! I said and let me tell you what just happened!!!!
All in all, this was an awesome Ulta trip (when is it not?). I am thinking in a few weeks if I can get some time off I will go back and get a facial because they have 50% off skin services until the end of the month. I'm looking for a new face regimen to help with my break outs. Sounds like they use Dermetilogica which I have not heard of or used before so I am anxious to see how I like it. Plus I would love to relax for an hour or so. So I'll post a blog about it when I get it done! For now I have just been using some cheap clean and clear cream wash that has a weird tingle to it. It is great when you wake up but is painful when you are trying to clean the make up off your eyes because that tingle feeling is not great when it is in your eyes. I got some advice from a client of mine who is an esthetician to use pure tea tree (diluted down) on my break outs. I used it last night and have already seen a difference! The breakouts that have been below the skin have lessened and my make up goes on better. It doesn't get rid of the redness, in fact if you put too much on your face will get more red. Oops! Now I'll know to dilute it a little bit more.
Ok so that was a really wordy post. Sorry!
More to come later this week! I bought new shampoo and conditioner (on sale) so once I use it a few times I will review it!

Christmas sale make up haul!
So we didn't go all out for christmas shopping other than a new tv but I did treat myself to some awesome make up deals.
My first steal of a deal sale was on eyeslipsface.com They had free shipping and half off holiday favorites. I picked up the 144 color palate and two lip colors. I am still trying out lip colors because in previous years have hated any and all lip glosses and sticks. I always feel like they will get on my teeth and being a hair stylist I tend to get hair stuck on my lip and can get really gross. So I have slowly started integrating lip stick into my make up routine. Since I wear mostly very vibrant colors on my eyes I usually choose a very nude or neutral color. These two are perfect. Pouty Petal is a soft coral pinkish color that makes your natural lip look more even and slightly bitten. The Natural Nymph is a great nude that doesn't wash out my face too much but doesn't look yellow either. Loves it! Both are also very matte which is great for work because it doesn't get sticky and doesn't need reapplying in between clients. You can also add gloss to them for a night out.
The 144 color palate is not for the faint of heart or the "i want to look like I'm not wearing make up" look. It is definitely for the bright fun funky souls out there. I.E. ME! Even the browns are pumped up with a little shimmer and are bold enough to wear a some what natural look but still look like you made an effort in the morning. I am for sure in love. I have bought huge multi-color palates in the past and some colors are straight up duds. They either don't go on at all or too flaky to wear all day. OR they don't blend very well with other colors or other brands. This ELF palate is nice because it blends well and it stays on all day (with a proper base). There are so many possibilities with this palate I'm sure I will not run out of ideas soon. And for the price it is a really good steal. 90% of the time their website is doing a sale and yes, most of their items are a dollar. I believe the palate was originally 30 and the lipsticks were a dollar. You can also find them at Target stores, though their selection of their products is pretty limited. All in all a for sure yay on my part.
My second awesome score is from Hautelook.com. I must admit I look forward to my email every morning from this website. Most of the time it has brands I am not interested in or are out of my price range. Granted everything is marked down substantially, there are some things that still are a little pricey. Around christmas they had a sale on Pixi and Pop cosmetics. I have seen this product at Target before (it's one of the only brands there that you can actually SAMPLE) and have wanted to try them out for awhile. It is on the pricey side for target and have always passed it up, but when hautelook was doing a sale, and I mean a MAJOR sale, I couldn't resist. I hit that purchase button so fast I couldn't even believe myself. I only bought two things because they were the only ones I was really interested in. The first one is the Flawless Beauty Powder in Fair. It boasts on not feeling heavy but still covering evenly. I have sampled it just on a small place on my jaw bone and was relieved that it actually MATCHED my skin. Being the very palest a healthy person can be is very hard when trying to find foundation. It is either too dark or too yellow. How could pale be so hard?!?! Either way I was so stoked they had this shade in stock. I can't wait to try it over my full face. Though I do feel that it won't cover to my liking so I will probably have to put either a light primer on or a light liquid on first then use it as a finisher. We shall see. I also like that it is very matte and powdery. I hate shine!
The second item I got is called is the Week of Make up Make up. yes they put make up twice in the title. Something I would totally do. Either way, there is seven days of awesome colors for eyes, lips and cheeks. There are 3 shadow colors per day, at least one lip color and one blush. All I could think was "is this going to be like the underwear of the day thing? Am i obligated to used these all together on each given day? There is no way I'm going to do that". Then i realized, I'm being crazy. All these colors look like they can mix and match and also use alone or with other brands. It seems so smooth and very pigmented. I cannot wait to use these tomorrow. Also, since I tend to be lazy and do my make up when I get to work, I was really impressed by how small and compact the palate is and will be totally easy to throw in my purse and go. I used to carry around a HUGE make up bag with a million colors and eye liners and blushes, just in case I get to work and change my mind. Now I can throw in a mascara, powder and liner and call it a day. Oh, and maybe a brush because it does not come with any. Not that I use those cheapy applicators anyway.
Anyway, I was super pumped about all these finds. And cannot wait to try them. Pictures to come!
Also, this would usually make me really upset because she likes to run off with my brushes, but come on, this is cute!! this is my white cat Caate. She is adorable yet mischievous. I'm sure I will post more pictures of my cats in the future because I absolutely am obsessed with them.
And now for the look I did today for work!
Those are some green contacts, and some colors from the e.l.f palate. Super proud of myself for being patient with both the contacts and the color placement. Say what?
That's all for today!
